One day i went to close a tab , and realized there was no little "x" to the right of the words in the tab , as there was on the version of Firefox , before 4.0.The only way to close a tab is by taking the tab dragging it down , and opening the tab in a new window , then close the window. I uninstalled Firefox 4.0 and still the same problem.

Can you close that tab with a middle click with the mouse scroll wheel on that tab?

Set the pref browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab to false on the about:config page to prevent closing the last tab from closing the browser and make a close button appear if only one tab is open.

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.
