Was the pop-up "Firefox security alert" I got yesterday really from you? It said Firefox was scanning my system and found 94 infected objects and recommended that I click on "Start Protection" to "erase all threats." What is this?

The pop-up included a chart with the following entries: Name - Type - Threat level W32.Nimba.j@mm - Virus - Medium Trojan Horse IRC/Backdoor.SdBot4.FRV - Virus - Medium W95/Eikern F-Secure - Virus - High AdvWare.Hotbar - Virus - High etc. etc.

There were maybe 10-15 "threats" listed.

That is not from Firefox, Mozilla does not scan your computer for viruses/malware. This will not be a genuine scan, it is a scam that is trying to get people to install some form of malware/virus/trojan. Those fake scans are aimed at Windows users, and the scan will look like a scan run on a Windows computer.
