In past versions of FireFox there was a view option that allowed a change in size of fonts and objects on the screen temporarily on the fly. This seems to be missing from version 6.

If you mean the - and + Zoom controls then it is still there in Firefox 6.0

or View->Zoom

Edit: I see that you are using Windows 7 where the menu bar is hidden as a orange Firefox button by default. Some Menu items many not be visible in the Firefox button menu. Either unhide the Menu bar or use the - and + Zoom controls buttons.

You can use an extension to set a default font size and page zoom on web pages:

James, thanks, yes, using Windows 7, with the orange Firefox button. The Zoom control buttons are what I'm looking for, but cannot find them. How does one unhide the menu bar, cannot locate any information on that.

Cor-el, the question relates to temporarily changing the font size on the fly using the Zoom function.

more options

You can access the built-in Zoom functions by doing one of the following:

  • ALT+V+Z
  • to temporarily display the Menu Bar, press the ALT key or the F10 key, then click View > Zoom in the temporarily displayed Menu Bar

See --> Text Zoom and Page Zoom

I use the Default FullZoom Level extension, because I find it more convenient than using the Menu Bar (View > Zoom function). You have a "T100%" or "F100%" icon in the Add-ons bar (bottom of window) and can use your mouse scroll wheel to increase or decrease the zoom level or click the icon and choose the zoom level. Toggle from text only zoom, "T100%", to full (page) zoom, "F100%", and back by right-clicking the icon.

Thanks, I installed the NoSquint add-in that works better than the original View+Zoom. Version 6 seems to be a step backward in ease-of-use in everything other than speed.

You can use "Ctrl +" and "Ctrl -" to zoom pages quickly and "Ctr 0" (zero) to reset the page zoom.

There are also page zoom buttons in the toolbar palette in the Customize window that you can drag on a toolbar.

Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"
