When I sign in to my homepage -same homepage as on previous computer / igoogle firefox browser- there are no listings in my Bookmarks menu. I assumed the bookmarks would automatically appear once I signed in. Did I assume incorrectly? If so, is there a way to get them back?

The bookmarks are on your machine not stored at Mozilla. You woud have to ttransfer them from you old machine, see

If you were using bookmarks at Google then signing into your Googe account would be necessary as we as installing an extension to allow you to access those passwords.
