For some reason, my spellchecker has several copies of the same dictionary installed. How do I remove them? While in this case it does not actually inhibit operation, it needlessly clutters the screen when I am trying to switch dictionaries.

Such dictionaries may be part of the version that Ubuntu installs via the software repositories.

Try the Ubuntu support forum about how to remove those unneeded dictionaries.
