Does Firefox for Mac 19.0 and higher support video from the Linksys WVC80N webcam? Looks like not.

I recently upgraded my Mac to Firefox 19.0, then 20.0. As a result my webcam, a Linksys WVC80N no longer can display video via Firefox. A similar situation exists with iOS 6.0 and my iPad can no longer display the video after upgrading to iOS 6.0 from 5.0. So I downgraded my Mac to Firefox 13.0 and everything is fine. Also, Safari 5.1.8 displays the video just fine. Looks like a Firefox problem to me.

Hello mvbmac,

It looks like your webcam uses an ActiveX control, which later versions of Firefox do not support.

While looking around on the Linksys support site, I found some users that figured out a workaround to get the cam running. You'll find that forum post Here.

Thanks for the response. I think you are correct about ActiveX. However, the link you suggested to a workaround site is broken - no such page.

patrickmc, no version of Firefox for any OS ever supported the proprietary ActiveX.

I have found a solution or at least a work around. Get the extension IE Tab 2 and when you go to your ip address for your cam set the extension to open in the Explorer Engine when ever you go to your WebCam. Hope this makes sense and since I have down this it has been fine. OOPS I did not read you are using a mac not sure about the IE Tab 2 but with windows I am having the same problem but using IE Tab 2

You may need Flip4Mac to use QuickTime to play some media files.
