Unable to view photos on Instagram properly
When viewing a user's photos on instagram.com/user, I click on one photo and it opens in a new tab (as opposed to popping up in the same tab in middle of the screen). Then, when I 'X' out the new tab and return to the old one with the rest of the photos, I cannot click on anymore. I have to refresh the page each time I want to view a new photo. This does NOT occur when I view the instagram.com/user page using Internet Explorer. Shockwave Flash and all other plug-ins are up to date. I just noticed this issue with Firefox's newest upgrade.

Firefox 23 "unprefixed" the requestAnimationFrame() function. This means that parts of the script that previously didn't run in Firefox now run in Firefox, and the developers might not have tested that.
Now... is there a workaround? Hmmm...

Glad to know I'm not the only one with BOTH problems! As stated above, a report has been submitted regarding the issues to both Bugzilla and Instagram. Hopefully the issue is resolved shortly... I hope! Not much we can do unfortunately.
along with this issue I am now having trouble view Instagram video's am I the only one?
I do not have a problem playing Instagram videos..
However, try this:
You can try to set the media.windows-media-foundation.enabled pref to false on the about:config page to disable the built-in mp4 media player.

Has anyone found a solution for it yet?
thank you, it was already set to "false" to correct the issue I had with "vine" videos.......wondering what is going on with the instagram videos for me.
A solution to this issue has not yet been found. As previously stated, this bug was already reported to Bugzilla prior to this thread's creation.
I also personally reported the issue to Instagram. Hoping they resolve it soon!
Speedo, I can't play Instagram videos in Firefox 23 as well. I'm on a Mac. The suggestion by Circean didn't work for me because that string isn't there when I use about:config.
I found this page because I am having the same problem as the OP.
I have made a userscript that "fixes" the issue by preventing left clicks from being handled by Instagram's broken code, and opening the link in a new page instead. The userscript can be found at http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/176836
This is meant as a temporary measure until Instagram updates their code to not break
There is a simple workaround, if you don't mind to see the pictures on a new tab. Just double right-click (a single right click is not enough) on the picture you want to see and choose the option "Open link in a new tab".
Problem still persists/exists with Instagram and the newly released Firefox 24. UGH!
Same issue with both pictures and videos.
As I understand in the bug report, it would be an instagram problem :
"Boris Zbarsky [:bz] (Vacation Oct 12 - Oct 27) 2013-07-28 09:27:11 PDT Which issue? The bug in this case is with the website, not with our code... If you're an Instagram user and this is affecting you, please contact them to let them know their site is broken."
The thing I don't get is why is it working just fine in Chrome or IE browsers ?
The bug report was in may 2013, it's a bit of a long time in status quo...
It's a chicken and egg problem, I guess. Sites use small differences to distinguish between browsers and feed them different scripts. When Firefox changes the name of a style property or method (because it is no longer a proprietary -moz implementation but a standard one), these tricks can backfire and break the script. Some sites are simple and users can work around the bug pretty easily (for example, with a Greasemonkey userscript), but Instagram's script seems too complex, at least at first glance, to succumb to a simple hack.

Instagram is working properly for me on Firefox 25
I still have FF 24 and today Instagram seems to work as it should. Weird!
I confirm, it works for me too with FF 24.0. It seems Instagram finally fixed his site for firefox users. Good news.
Images are now working on FF24 but I still cannot play videos. Videos play perfectly fine on Safari & Chrome.
Now they have to fix the FF/iTunes download bug. :)
