I updated firefox mid-December 2013 on a pc running Windows 7. Everything was fine until I shut down. Windows would not start. Safe mode would not start. We eventually found that there were corrupt system files. We fixed those, uninstalled the firefox update and everything was fine. At that time I was not certain firefox was the source of the problem because I had installed other updates and programs.

I just updated to firefox 26.0 (no other changes made), shut down, and couldn't launch windows. Uninstalled the update and fixing my sytem again.

Can you please try doing a complete clean re-installation of Firefox latest version.

Simply uninstall your Firefox and then perform a Full virus and Malware scan on your system.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
