I'm running Thunderbird on Mac OS 15.3. I have two POP accounts in Thunderbird; the configuration has been stable for years. This evening, I went to add a new account, and Thunderbird seemed to have decided to update itself, including flipping me over to Chrome where it opened a page about Supernova.

Thunderbird relaunched and came up with an empty "Chat" window. My usual mail window is gone -- and I can't get it back. I can't get an "About Thunderbird" window to open.

I actually can't figure out what happened. My mail appears to be gone. My accounts seem to be gone. I can't open Settings, I can't open Account Settings.

Wait, the mail accounts seem to still exist -- I can tell Thunderbird to check mail, and the POP server shows the checks happening -- but if I send mail to myself, nothing opens. Also, all of the Layout menu options are greyed out.

Help? :-)

Thunderbird Problem: For many years I have been using the Thunderbird mail client currently in ver. 128.7.0esr (32 bit) on S.O. Windows 10 Home Update 22H2 (OS Build 19045.5487), 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor. I have a couple of mail accounts, one of mine and one of my wife. My problem is that for a few days now (about 5 or 6 days) on the InBox folder of my account, only mine, I have not been able to compact the folder. When I try to compact it, the response message is always the following: <The Inbox folder on "my_account_name@gmail.com" cannot be compacted because it is not possible to write to it. Verify that you have enough disk space and have write privileges, then try again> On my disk the available space is 121 Gb on C: where the program with the InBox folders resides and 266 Gb where the data stored in custom folders resides. The write privileges are always the same, never changed, of Administrator. I have already tried the path of "repairing the folder" and re-indexing the folder, but without success. Il mio problema è che da qualche giorno in qua (circa 5 o 6 giorni) sulla cartella InBox del mio account, solo del mio, non riesco ad eseguire la compattazione della cartella. Al tentativo di compattarla il messaggio di risposta è sempre il seguente: <La cartella Posta in arrivo su "nome_mio_account@gmail,com" non può essere compattata in quanto non è possibile scriverci. Verificare di avere spazio su disco sufficiente e avere privilegi di scrittura, quindi riprovare> Sul mio disco lo spazio disponibile è di 121 Gb su C: dove risiede il programma con le cartelle InBox e di 266 Gb dove risiedono i dati archiviati in cartelle personalizzate. I privilegi di scrittura sono sempre quelli, mai cambiati, di Amministratore. Ho già tentato la strada della "riparazione della cartella" e della re-indicizzazione della cartella, ma senza successo. Qualcuno può suggerirmi un rimedio, per favore? Grazie Riccardo

Greetings My Thunderbird automatically updated to 128.7.0 which prevents me opening the programme. Occurred while on holiday in Italy so was not sure if a local problem related to wi-fi access.

Dialogue box appears: Error: platform version 128.7.0 not compatible with miniversion >= 128.6.0

How can I overcome the impasse?

I bought a new computer and had to download Thunderbird again. I tried the most recent one, didn't like it, so randomly picked a previous release from 2023 (don't remember when I installed the previous one) and hoped for the best. In the past, I would keep some emails in my inbox and tend to them as needed and then keep or delete when I had done what was required. I would also need to go to my ISP email's page, to get spam email, because Thunderbird didn't provide me with those. When there, I would delete what was in the inbox, so I could easily keep letters there to a minimum. Now, however, when I delete something in my ISP's inbox, it deletes in my Thunderbird portal too. I can't find settings in my ISP's page to stop it from downloading automatically (so it won't duplicate what I've already received via Thunderbird), and I can't find any settings in Thunderbird, to ask it to keep what I have in my inbox, instead of deleting everything I delete with my ISP. Do I need to go further back and find an earlier release in order to be able to use Thunderbird as I used to do? Or can I tweak the one I have?

Hello, I am lost, which is why I am turning to this forum for help. I have a professional Gmail Workspace account (in this format: pierre.richard@aile.association.fr). I recently changed my laptop, and I can't log in on the new freshly installed thunderbird ( 128.7.0esr (64 bits) ). On my old computer, which ran on Windows 11 with the same settings, I had no issues, but since switching to the new one, it’s impossible. I put my settings automatically detected by Thunderbird in added images. The system fails every time because, supposedly, the password is incorrect. However, I am certain that I entered the correct password. Here’s what I’ve already tried to do: - I activated the IMAP access on my gmail settings - I tried whith my personal gmail account : It's working !

Does someone know what else I could try to solve this issue ?

Hello, I would like to know how the retention policy effects sub-folders. Does the Retention Policy (RP) propagate down to sub-folders?

Example: I create a folder in my EM account, call it folder1. I go into the RP tab and un-check the use global settings and choose never delete EM's. I then create folder2 as a sub-folder of folder1 and create a RP, un-check use global settings and select delete EM's older than "x" days.

Will folder1's RP take president over folder2's RP and never delete EM's or will folder2's RP override folder1's RP and delete EM's older than "x" days according to folder2's RP?

My OS is Linux Mint 22.1 Cinnamon, Cinnamon Ver. 6.4.6 Thunderbird-Nebula 128.7, 64Bit for Linux Mint-001 - 1.0

I've read the original query from romanroad (4/23/24) and the replies, which related to Gmail. I have the same problem but with a slightly different set-up, which those replies don't cover. My query relates to Thunderbird 128.5.1esr (64-bit) using IMAP to link with Outlook emails. A reply from sfhowes - 4/24/24, 10:26 AM said [with my numbering] [1] "Right-click the account in the Folder Pane, Subscribe..., uncheck the Sent folder and check the Sent Mail folder." [2] "Also, make the change in Copies & Folders in Account Settings

re [1] When I Right-click the account in the Folder Pane, Subscribe..., I can uncheck the Sent folder BUT there is no Sent Mail folder. (Folders are Archive, Deleted (with subfolder POP), Drafts, INBOX, Junk, Notes, Outbox and Sent [as well as 3 personal folders].) Both Outbox and Sent were checked. If I uncheck the Sent box, leaving Outbox checked, the Sent folder empties completely; if I then check it again, it refills all the sent messages from years back (presumably from Outlook because of IMAP.) re [2] In Account Settings I had unchecked the "Place a copy in:" option - but am still getting duplicates. I do want a copy of what I have sent - just not two of everything.

Hello! And THANK YOU!! As you can gather from the subject line, I want to know if Thunderbird can be loaded automatically upon booting my computer?

My OS is Linux Mint 22.1 Cinnamon, Cinnamon Ver. 6.4.6 Thunderbird-Nebula 128.7, 64Bit for Linux Mint-001 - 1.0

I also have a master password enabled on my TB installation.

If not, maybe it could be added to a future release:)

I tried to move the Profile(s) from my old Win 10 PC to a new Win 11 PC... Did not go well. I have all primary folders showing, but over half do not display messages even though properties show there is varied amounts of data in the folders. Nearly ALL Sub Folders do Not display even though the .sbd folders show up in the profiles. I have search your files for methods to recover messages, display folders, transfer files, raise the dead and after life experiences. Nothing seems to work. I have gone into the 'file' portion of the folders list, not .MSF File, with NotePad and can see email data. I am at the point of trying to find a way to move this data over into TB messages, but not sure how to go about that. I am seeing the same thing on both computers Win10 and Win11 as described above - the folders that show data seem to be the first 10 or so and then nothing after that. I can only think I cut the first transfer attempt short before every thing was moved.. No idea really what is happening. If I have a new message I want to save to one of the Main Folders, that do not show messages, I can see the data count increase, but the newly moved message does not show up in the Folder I moved it to. If I make a new Sub Folder under the Main Folder, and move the new message to it... it shows up and the sub Folder shows up like it should. I need some guidance on how to recover the messages because some of them are important.. I keep thunderbird pinned to my Windows taskbar and that is usually where I look for it. Every so often and much mor6e frequently than I like it vanishes from there and I believe that that is when it an update to it arrives. To maintain the state I like I then need to delete the now-dead pinning for the taskbar, find thunderbird afresh and leunch it and re-pin. This is not a terribly new behaviour but the grief threshold in my life has just been passed leading me to ask if this is a thunderbird issue or a windows one and if there is some scheme I can use to keep the application pinned pretty well come what may. This is obviously not life critical but it has been winding me up! Many thanks. Arthur
