I used import/export/tools to move my folders sub-folders and sub-sub-folders. They are all now under Local Folders as I was advised. However, I must have mis-specified something because I now have a single list of folders rather that a tree. What I mean is say I had a folder tree projects --- Project A,

Data
correspondence

--- Project B

Mary
Bill

--- Project C

Boston
NYC
SF

but now I have Bill Boston correspondence Data Mary NYC Project C Project A, Project B projects SF

How do I move a folder to be a sub-folder of a different folder?

Highlight the folder you want to move hold down the left mouse button and drag the folder to where you want it.on your tree Let me know if this doesn't work or even if it does

Yes I can do that using the old profile.

Would whatever corruption was causing the 1969 dates be carried with the folder?

The whole purpose was to move all folders from inbox and my mail to local folders because of 1969 dates.

I really think your doing this the hard way... this is the third post I have stumbled upon on basically the same subject.

did you try right clicking the folders and selecting repair? or simply deleting all of the MSF files in your profile and restarting.

1989 dates have a multitude of causes and corruption is but one. Receiving an email with no date is another (that is malformed and usually spam) or incorrectly formatted (the date must comply with strict formatting conditions. Departure from that by the sender causes a dodgy date to show up.

Seriously, before you take this madness any further.

create a new folder and copy your old profile into it, use Thunderbird profile manager to use the old profile and try some of the repair options. Then you might not need to ask questions like "will the corruption carry over" no one knows, because really no one knows if you data is corrupt or how or why.

I was having several problems with TB. the 1969 dated were appearing frequently. Deleting a message would cause a freeze. sending a message would cause a message saying TB was unable to copy to the sent folder.

I first compacted folders under <file>. I then "repaired" each folder. I emptied inbox to folders the were subfolders of Inbox. I deleted Inbox and all .msf files in the profile. The 1969 problem persisted.

I read that my folders should not be under My Mail or under Inbox. so I copied the profile to desktop then I ran MozBackup.

I am now trying to follow the directions in

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Thunderbird I created a new profile and have copied several files to that new profile.

I would like to move the messages from My Mail and from Inbox to Local Folders and keep the current tree arrangement.

I have Inbox and other folder under My Mail. I have sub-folders, sub-sub folders and sub-sub-sub folders.

Is there a link that explains what folders and files from the old profile to move to Local folders?
