If I delete my gmail account, will the emails still be stored in Thunderbird?

I have a gmail account that I have used for the past couple of years for business, and am transitioning to a new gmail account. I want to delete the previous gmail account but I want to save the emails that I accumulated there. If I delete the gmail account, will the email messages stay stored in Thunderbird?

If you use an IMAP connection, the folders you see are just a mirror of what's on the server. Do not delete your account until you copy all the messages from the IMAP folders into (new) Local Folders. Even then, I would be a little nervous. You may want to wait for a Thunderbird expert to offer more suggestions.
