Hi. Thanks for your help. During download (32.0) I selected FIRST bubble in Options. It sounded good, but I dislike the results. Firefox changed my HTML, Adobe PDF, etc. files. (Prefer these files were back to original format.)

Question(s): 1. Will I loose anything if I UNINSTALL Firefox? Or, will all files revert back to original? 2. Will it give me what I want If I uninstall then download again but NOT SELECT bubble Option? 3. Should I allow hours (or, days) between uninstall and downloading again? 4. Will using Chrome for web video playback be an issue if I keep Firefox as default browser?

Thanks again, IslandFox

Hi IslandFox, yes, try reinstalling and NOT making Firefox your default browser.

Notes:

(1) Before uninstalling Firefox, make another browser your default browser.

(2) When uninstalling Firefox, do NOT remove your personal data, if you have accumulated bookmarks or made any customizations you would like to keep.

(3) The latest Firefox installer is available on the following page (scroll down to your preferred language): https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/

Regarding performance, does this seem to affect particular sites or particular types of media? This article has general suggestions: Quick fixes if your Firefox slows down.

The PDF switch is an error by the installer. Firefox is only supposed to be an additional PDF opener, not displace your existing default. You can try this fix suggested by a user in another thread:

  1. Open Adobe Reader / Acrobat
  2. Edit->Preferences
  3. In the Categories column click 'General'
  4. Near the bottom of the page click the button marked 'Select Default PDF Handler'
  5. In the dialog, select 'Adobe Reader XI' (or Adobe Acrobat, as the case may be) and click 'Apply'
  6. A Windows Configuration screen will appear. Allow it to do its stuff (takes a few minutes), then restart your computer when prompted.

On #1, if you do not remove personal data when uninstalling, you should not lose anything. On #2, some users say this worked. On #3, I don't think that will make any difference. You can get a "full" installer from this page: https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ (scroll down to your preferred language). On #4, your default browser will handle any links and shortcuts you click in non-browser programs (desktop, Adobe Reader, etc.). Any link you access inside a browser will load inside that same browser, and ignore the default setting.

Hi, jscher2000. Thanks for the steps. Seemed to help; but, Firefox now snail slow. Late for class. Will uninstall and redo tomorrow. Thanks, again.

Hello, again, jscher2000. I elected not to uninstall FF after reading that to "fix" problems when re-installing FF it should be set as default browser. (I prefer another one as default.)

A) Should I uninstall/reinstall anyway? (FF not set as default.) B) How can I eliminate FF's excessive use of resources? (Keep getting warning message from AVG.)

Thanks in advance. Have a great evening.
