Hi Guys,

I recently asked about making my about:newtab page have an image background. Someone (very helpfully solved the problem) but my goal was to create an animated gif and use that as the image background. That way I could basically have a slideshow like background. The problem is that the gif was too low in quality.

Can anyone suggest away of making a slideshow like background for my about:new tab page?

Thanks

Niels

P.S I still want the tabs to say New Tab in their titles and the address bar to be empty.

If this add-on - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/customize-aboutnewtab/ - no longer works for you, you could try this one - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/new-tab-tools/ - but the documentation for it doesn't day what type of image files it supports.

This customizes the tiles not the background image.

I want one that changes the background image every few minutes not that I have to use tiles that are linked places.

With that extension installed, when the newTab page is displayed hit the "gear" in the upper-right corner to open the options for that extension, then in the lower-left corner find Page Backgound Image.

I don't know if an animated GIF image is supported or not. You'll have to see if it works yourself. I have found no documentation as to the supported image formats - https://github.com/darktrojan/newtabtools.

I have used .jpg, .jpeg and .png images that I saved as desktop wallpaper images for my "desktop", never tried a .gif or animated .gif image, though.
