Since yesterday, Thunderbird becomes "not responding" indefinitely after performing some simple tasks. So far the following situations cause the freeze, -- clicking "send" (while sending an e-mail) -- clicking OK on "account settings" panel -- closing "About Thunderbird" panel -- opening attachment -- clicking "Install" while installing an add-on Performed clean re-install - that is wiped out any hint of Thunderbird from the system, including profile folders and all the registry entries. After installation, did not configure any e-mail account - just bare bones Thunderbird engine. Opened "About Thunderbird", closed the panel - Thunderbird is not responding. Running Win7 64 bit, Norton Internet Security (disabling did not help). Had no problems till yesterday evening and made no changes to the system at that point.

Start computer in Safe Mode. Usually this means pressing f8 key repeatedly as soon as the computer starts up to get the screen where you can select boot up in Safe Mode with Networking.

If Thunderbird starts correctly then a another program is causing the issue. What other 'security software' are you running? Do you use 'System Mechanic' or anything similar?

re : Norton Thunderbird should be set to 'Allow' in Norton: Settings > Network > Smart Firewall > Program Rules Locate Thunderbird and set to 'Allow'
