When replying to email, why does cursor jump to the email page from which I opened the email?

I open an email and decide to reply. While typing my reply, the cursor jumps to the email box and my reply jumps behind the box. I will then click on my reply and it come back to the front. However, I can only type a couple of letters before the jumping happens again.

I am able to work around this by minimizing the email box. This problem started just a couple of days ago and it is getting frustrating to take these extra steps.

Thank you.

Two questions: - do you experience this only when using Thunderbird, or does it happen with other programs when you have several windows open on your screen? - are you using a laptop? If it's 'yes' to both then the problem is probably to do with your operating system. If you do a search for 'cursor jumps' on the internet you will find that a lot of people encounter the same problem and that usually it can be cured by adjusting the controls in your operating system.

First of all, I do not have a laptop.

Secondly, I have this problem only in Thunderbird and it did not start until the last update.

Thanks for your input. I followed your advice, but the solutions found did not resolve this.
