I would like to add an extra header column to Thunderbird which I can use to add a note e.g. what the actions are for the email. I installed the ColumnsWizard add-on and added a new column successfully but I I can't see how to enter values for the field for each email to add whatever the action is, i.e, I want a free text field.

ps I know about the XNote++ add-on but I really would like to add a note field as a header so that I can scan down my Inbox to look at actions

I just looked at that add-on and it puts header fields into a column list. it is not some free text note taking item.

Pick a message, press Ctrl+U. See all those lines that start with things like From:, X-Thread-Info: and MIME-Version: they are header fields. they are not notes fields.

I suggest you look as using the calendar and tags to resubmit your mail for actions. Tasks have extensive text available, including the text of the email and any attachments.
