Urgent patch pop-up for Firefox, normal screen. Downloaded, clicked on file, strange screen for installing, immediately stopped installation. Malware program would not loan. Restart, scan, 5 threats found, quarantine, suspect file gone, restart, 4 threats found, quarantine. Is there a new patch or was it a fake with Trojans or other malware?

Sadly those URGENT popups are indeed a security threat and a SCAM. I'm not sure what causes them to popup. But you did the right proceed towards preventing and cleaning it up. Just to ensure full security, which software for a scan did you use? If I may suggest MalwareBytes.

As well for future occurrences, I'd suggest getting an adblocker, such as... https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/

Thank you. Malwarebytes is what discovered the threats.

I have added the ad blocker you recommended. Malwarebytes is installed and used regularly. Thank you for your response.

Glad your problem is solved  ! You inadvertently marked your own post as 'Chosen Solution' instead of Zachary's ..... You can rectify that by clicking on the Undo button on the right side of the post and then mark Zachary's answer as 'Chosen Solution' ...... Would you do that please  ? Thank you in advance  !

Done, I think correctly.

You sure did  ! Thank you  !
