So I'm trying to use Firefox 57 on macOS (10.10.5) however I'm not getting hardware decoding of video on common sites like Twitch and YouTube, which appears to be falling back to software decoding only, judging by high CPU usage when viewing video.

This isn't a big deal since I have a good CPU, but I'm curious what exactly the minimum requirements for hardware decoding on Mac actually are, as I appear to get hardware decoding in both Safari and Chrome just fine.

I've tried setting `media.hardware-video-decoding.force-enabled` to `true`, but this appears to make no difference, is it a vestigial setting?

And yes, I realise I'm not on the latest version of macOS (or even 10.10.6) but I have some compatibility issues (software I need to get upgrades for) that I never seem to get around to. If the OS version is the reason hardware decoding doesn't work though then that might just be what I need to finally do it :)

Firefox really likes updated video card drivers. So what Mac offers is not always the latest or even the best drivers. Drivers get corrupted and Firefox is the 1st to notice.

Support will not know if your Video Card is up to snuff.

Since did not tick the box with in Firefox to send info to Mozilla. There is no information here to begin to answer that ?

Mac requirements are relatively light, requiring Mac OS 10.9 or greater, and 512MB of RAM.

High cpu usage : Go the 3 Bar Menu then Options --> General --> Performance and untick everything. change the recommended size lower then see how it runs. Note: 1 = No Multiprocessor = slow again. Try 2 Restart Firefox after making these changes please.
