Say I have my firefox sync exactly how i want it, and then I log into another computer with my sync. I have settigns set to sync, so which settings will be used? how is this determined?

There is no master for Sync. Data from each connected device is uploaded to the Sync server and is downloaded (merged) to all other connected devices, so all devices eventually get the same data.

But then how does that work with settings? How would two different settings profiles "merge"?

Firefox Volunteer Support does not have a answer to that question. We provide information that we know : This is all I have on Sync :

fyi only : If using Sync as a storage for your profile (1 computer) that is not what it is designed for and your data will end being lost, sooner or later.

If you are wanting to do this manually for a desktop :

If want information on phones please see the forum that supports phones :

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

I just dont understand why Sync is explained so poorly by Mozilla and there is so little control. The idea of sync makes sense, but I don't understand how settings merge when two firefoxes will have different settings from each other and how would it be determined which settings profile to use

Hi, you and me both. I do not use it myself as manual backup works just fine as long as you do it.

Specifically, which settings are different?
