In the top it should be possible to specify a local address.

If open a new tab there are top sites. In previous versions in the top it was possible to specify the local address of the page which is located on the local computer. In new versions it is impossible and moreover, Mozilla resists and do not allow if it is done manually. This is an important function and it's necessary to return the ability to specify a local address in one of the top positions of the new tab

You can still open local files in Firefox without issues.

To open a local file, you need to add the file:/// prefix to the path to the file. Otherwise, Firefox will assume that you want to use either http:// or https://, which are for accessing websites.

Hope this helps.

Looks like you didn't understand my question. I know how to open local files in Firefox. It's about something else. When an empty tab is open, there is a menu of top sites. If I put my local address in one of the positions of this menu, THIS DOES NOT WORK It worked in older previous versions of Firefox. But in new versions the local address in the top does not work. Moreover, If I give the command to open this local address in a new tab, IT DOESN'T WORK ALSO Only one way to open a local file is open in a new tab and then activate the local address with an additional manual click In older versions of Firefox, I opened a local file from the top with one click In new versions I have to do several operations that greatly creates difficulties in comparison with the previous ones It's necessary to return the ability to open a local file from the top of new tab menu

I will add, of course, it is file:///C:/ and so on

Yes, I see what you mean:

I think this reflects a limitation of the the way the page is designed.

If I sneak in a local link by editing one of the regular pinned items in the browser.newtabpage.pinned preference in the prefs.js file in the profile folder (while Firefox is closed), when I restart Firefox and try the link, it doesn't load, and I get this message in the Browser Console:

Security Error: Content at moz-nullprincipal:{cd1ab275-604d-4ce0-8748-dcb59c454ff3} may not load or link to file:///C:/Users/username/Downloads/test.pdf

I think for the time being, you are limited to using bookmarks for file:/// URLs. You can access bookmarks from the menu/toolbar/sidebar or by typing part of the text of the title or address in the address bar and using the suggestions on the autocomplete drop-down.

Note: I tested in Firefox 66 (release version), so this isn't something new in the beta/Developer version you may be using.

For a long time I kept version 56 for this particular feature. There it works in one click. This is a necessary feature and have to go back to version 56 for this. But to file a bug, or submit comments and suggestions for feature changes it's hard for me because far from this kind of activity

In earlier versions up to 56, this was not a problem. The farther into the forest, the more problems
