I get this message every time I want to login to one of my accounts: Enter your password for xxxx@xxxx.co.za on imap.gmail.com There is an option to select: Use Password Manager to remember this password When I type in the password I get the following message: Login to server imap.gmail.com with username xxxx@xxxx.co.za failed. Retry Enter New Password Cancel My password is correct as I use it to login on the server

Try changing your login authentication method to "Oauth2" - I just did that with My gmail account using these directions: https://www.supertechcrew.com/thunderbird-oauth2-gmail/

You will have to enable cookies in TB preferences, I discovered.

Otherwise, I got my Gmail account secured relatively easily doing all of those steps listed. I hope this helps YOU, also.

This is driving me NUTS! I am getting my email and I can send my email but I keep getting notification that login failed. And then I get the notification that the IMAP server does not seem to support encrypted...

Same problem with TPG Mail
