I updated TB 64-bit to v68.4.1 a few weeks ago, yet periodically TB says it needs updating. When I go to download the update, it is the same version that is running already (68.4.1 x64) - see 'About' image capture attached.

The Update History in Options doesn't show that v68.4.1 has been installed - it is still showing v68.3.1 as latest installed version. I presume this is why it keeps asking to be updated - see Update History image capture.

Can anyone suggest why the Update History is not being updated after updating? (Feels like there are too many 'updates' in that sentence!)

The updates files in C:\ProgramData\Mozilla\updates may be corrupted. The updates folder contains subfolders for both TB and Firefox, but you can tell which one by opening updates.xml in a text editor. Delete or rename the correct subfolder, while TB is closed, and see if the spurious update notices stop.

Kaspersky users have also had issues with update notifications.

Thanks, sfhowes for your help.

I identified the TB updates folder as you suggested, renamed it with TB shut down, and restarted TB. A new replacement folder appeared, but the false notifications are continuing.

Do you have any other ideas?

It's not a big deal, getting these false notifications, just irritating.

Do you have Kaspersky? There's a known issue where it causes TB to show spurious notifications, but it's easily fixed by adjusting Kasperskyy settings.

But if you're getting a notification for 68.4.2, that is a recent update.
