After I deleted my history, all my login details were gone. How do I retrieve my log in details? Can I restore my history and all log in details etc?

Unless you have a backup . . . .

How did you remove the history? Using another program?
We do not recommend using such as the browser can clean itself.

What did you mean by 'all log in details' ? Did you mean the passwords?

Hi FredMcD

I cleaned the history using firefox's Clear Recent History option.

Yes, I lost all passwords and cannot log in to facebook anymore as it needs 2 step verification. I have the facebook password but I cannot log in because I deleted my authenticator app from my phone by mistake.

Sorry I can't give you more help.

In the event that the passwords information is lost, you should record all information in a separate text file somewhere else on your hard drive, or written down. You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password.

Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles {web link} I use an add-on that makes backups of my user profile, Just In Case. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the current Firefox.

Every now and then, open the profile folder and create a copy of the current profile as is to another location on your hard drive. This way you will have a backup.

If you do this each day, you will not lose much data. This should be done with Firefox Closed.

Note: In case you need to restore from these backups, you may need to overwrite old or corrupted files.

These answers are not helpful. Someone should explain clearly why does the updated Firefox delete logins when you use the History option to clear everything. This is very frustrating.

Hi Azack

A detail like a website remembering you (log you in automatically) is stored in a cookie. If you clear such a cookie then you need to login again.

If you use "Clear Recent History" to clear the cookies then you remove all the cookies including cookies with an allow exception you may want to keep. You need to use "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" to keep cookies with an allow exception.

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Permissions"

Note that cookie exceptions are part of the Site Preferences.

  • clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exception for password and other website specific data
  • clearing "Cookies" via "Clear Recent History" will remove all selected cookies including cookies with an allow exception you may want to keep

The original poster had another problem because he lost access to the authenticator app needed to generate a two-factor authentication (2FA) key. If you use this 2FA feature then make sure to have a backup of the QR code (otpauth://).
