System restore just stopped working. I restarted my computer this a.m. and when it booted up, my firefox websites were no longer there. Usually, a site comes up that states, "well, this is embarrassing...", but it didn't come up and it appears that I've lost my websites that I really needed... but don't remember their location. How can I get these back and how can I prevent this from happening again? I'm using Firefox 4.0.1; Windows 7

usually you can find them through the web history folder...but mine only goes back seven days...it used to let you go back as far as a few months to view what sites you visited...do you have any clue how we can go back(ie change web history setting or other setting), that will let you go back and search for the websites?

Click Bookmarks | Show All Bookmarks or hit CTRL+SHIFT+B to launch the Bookmarks manager. Then click Import and Export | Restore and then choose a date from the list.

@ florida1, are you using Firefox v3.6.16 or earlier? In version 4.0, you get 180 days of history whether you like it or not.

In Firefox 4 there is no time limit, but only a maximum for the number of entries that is calculated automatically based upon the system performance.

You can see the current value in the pref places.history.expiration.transient_current_max_pages on the about:config page.

Oh, that's wonderful. The figure FF has decided for me based on my system is sixty-four-thousand, three hundred and seventy four pages (64374). I'm sure Firefox is going to load just fine with having to open that many every time it loads...I think not.

That figure seems to be set in stone too. I just tried to change it, but it remains the same. :(

thanks for the reply...when i go to history on the menu bar and go down to show all history it only goes back to 7 days....still cant seem to get further back then that..not sure if there is a setting i need to change or what....thanks in advance

If you do not have older history then the history got deleted at that time in the past. You should see older history appear again during the next day(s) provided that the history doesn't get deleted again. If you are running cleanup software like CCleaner then check the settings for the Firefox program.

thanks for the reply...i am only running microsoft security essentials....not sure if that could be it or not
