Blogger & Firefox 4 have compatability problems. My blog is different each time it loads.

I was having problems with Firefox freezing up or crashing so I updated to 4. Now my blog is always screwed up i.e. out of alignment, photos missing or moved or duplicated or the photo size has been changed to full resolution and doesn't fit in the blog anymore. Each time I log in the blog is different. This happens on both my PC (Widows 7) and Laptop (Vista) It's worse using Vista but both are bad. When uploading a photo to blogger it often won't append the photo to the blog. If multiple photos are uploaded only some will append or I have to repeat the process several times to get the photos to append some never will. I have no idea what incarnation my readers are seeing and it make me look like a moron. When viewed in Chrome everything is perfect, just like it was posted. There are a few problems in Explorer, but minimal. I will be forced to switch to Chrome and advise my readers to do the same if Firefox isn't fixed soon. I was not thrilled with the previous version of Firefox with all its crashing and sluggishness but I liked it better than 4. Firefox claims 4 is faster but I don't see it and I don't particularly like the new layout with the tabs etc.

Would you mind posting the URL of your blog so other Firefox 4 users can take a look and see whether they have the same issues?

Also, to diagnose potential problems with add-ons or settings, you could try viewing the page in Firefox's Safe Mode.

First, make a backup of your computer for safekeeping. To back up Firefox, see Backing up your information.

Next, try starting Firefox in Firefox Safe Mode. Be careful not to "reset" anything permanently if you didn't back up.

Does that improve the display? If so, it suggests that something (usually an add-on) in your regular profile is creating the problem.

You can move the tabs by right-clicking next to the "+" (new tab) button or in a blank area after the page address and unchecking Tabs on Top.

Try to Reload such web pages and bypass the cache.

  • Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Cmd + Shift + R" (MAC)

Such issues can also be caused by having HTTP pipelining enabled.

I tried your suggestions Re: Reloading the web page and bypass the cache. This helped...there was some improvement. The pages are closer to normal but there are still many missing photos in the post. aylmer2zazzoo.blogspot.com

Re: Having the HTTP pipelining enabled. This has me a little confused, I'm not all that computer savy. I will have someone who is help me on this one and see if it is the solution.

Thanks for your help

Today when I loaded the blog it was not as bad as it had been previously, there were none this time that were oversized, or duplicated, but there were still several missing photos and still some of the ads on the right sidebar have changed size, bigger than they have been in the past.

I will try the safe mode, but I will get a friend who is more computer skilled than I to help me do it (if it can be screwed up I'm sure I can do just that).

The page looks roughly the same to me in Firefox 4 and IE8. I didn't compare sizes of things closely, but I scrolled down one screen at a time in each (about half way) and they seemed to match up. I didn't notice any missing photos.

Since I don't log in to Blogger/Blogspot, I wonder whether logging out would make any difference to how it appears for you?

If images are missing then check that you aren't blocking images from some domains.

See:

  • Check the exceptions in Tools > Options > Content: Load Images > Exceptions
  • Check the "Tools > Page Info > Media" tab for blocked images (scroll through all the images)

There are also extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) that can block images.

Check the post 'China part XXXIV Pandas at The Beijing Zoo', it should be the second most recent post. This is the first post after upgrading to FF 4. This post is the most affected post of the blog. I post the photos (for the most part) in a very symmetrical pattern. There should be 104 photos and 7 videos. Currently in FF there are only 84 photos. All photos and videos are uploaded from my files, nothing is posted from the net.

Thanks all for your suggestions....however, when I booted up the computer just now everything was back to normal. I hadn't had a chance to implement any of the suggestion so everything mysteriously fixed itself. I am assuming that FF has been doing some tweaking due to all the reported problems since the launch of FF4.

Anyway thanks again for your willingness to help a semi-novice.
