I downloaded a program that set my homepage and default search engine (in all my browsers) to their search engine. When I search by typing in the address bar (as opposed to the search bar) it used to go to Google, but now it goes to this other site. I changed the search bar and homepage back to Google but I can't find how to change it back to Google when I search from the address bar. Help!

Thanks, finitarry.

Just so you know, anyone who has little to no knowledge of how web browser work or don't know much about computers would have no idea what you were talking about. I'm a web developer, so I figured it out pretty quickly, but at first I had no clue what you were talking about when you said "In about:config". I've never seen it before. I would suggest explaining it a little more next time.

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

  • Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
  • Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
  • Preferences can be reset to the default via the right-click context menu if they are user set
  • Preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean)
