Recent History stopped working; All extensions keep being disabled upon FF startup.
Before installing version 13.0.1, FF would save my history. Now for some reason, it doesn't.
Along with this, version 13.0.1 had been set to NOT display thumbnails of past viewed webpages upon startup. Now it does. In the process of troubleshooting, I finally got rid of this problem but that's when the previously described "no history" problem came up.

I forgot to mention that "Restore previous session" works fine and Start Private Browsing is OFF.
Also, something keeps disabling all of my Plugins. None of this happened until I mucked around trying to get the thumbnails of previously viewed websites to not display upon startup.
So here's what I want when I start FF 13:
a) No thumbnails of previously viewed websites display.
b) All browsing history is retained until I manually clear it.
c) All my extensions come up in the state they were in when I last closed FF.
d) A way to revert to FF12, which for me worked flawlessly for months.
Frustration level (1 - 10): 5.

Do not use "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear the "Browsing History".
- Tools > Options > Privacy: History: [X] Clear history when Firefox closes > Settings
- https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Clear+Recent+History
You can also check the startup (home) page setting.
- Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts"
Save History is enabled. Always has been.
Installed version 12. Do not have the extensions problem in that version.

Do you only have a problem with the thumbnails on the about:newtab page or do you (still) have other problems as well?
The thumbnails on the about:newtab page are generated from the cache, so if the page is not in the cache or otherwise can't be rendered as a PNG image then you will get an empty box.
- Do not use Clear Recent History to clear data like the cache and the history when you close Firefox
If there is no history then you get an about:newtab page with empty boxes.
Hey cor-el, thanks for replying. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how one looks at it) my problems with FireFox disappeared as quickly as they appeared.
So I took a deep breath and installed FF13 over version 12 and what to my surprise - the problems I had been experiencing all went away. My browsing history started working again, my plugins were not all disabled when I restarted FF13, and I figured out how to start FF13 with a blank page instead of with the new tabs page. (That, my friend, is a huge blunder on the part of Mozilla, and I have read that a fix is imminent - July 17 IIRC.
Corollary to Murphy's Law: Problems that go away by themselves come back by themselves.
So thanks for hanging in there with me. I appreciate it, especially your explanation of what happens when the cache is cleared.
Still a couple of (new) problems but I'll describe those in another thread.
