My Dell laptop (work) has Mozilla Firefox installed and linked to an account for syncing bookmarks. I want those same bookmarks to be shown on my Acer laptop (home). Firefox on the Dell shows my account and is linked. The Acer laptop does not show an account. When I try to set up the sync account I get a button to push "I have an account". Pushing that button does nothing. Hence, I cannot get to further steps to link that Acer laptop to my Firefox sync account. BB

Did you try to use the 12-character pairing code instead?

You need to set up Sync on at least one desktop computer to be able to add other devices via the 12-character pairing code.
Both devices need to be online at the same time if you want to pair a device with the (3x4) 12-character code.
Sync needs to be set up and working on at least one (desktop) computer, so you can enter the 12-character code, provided by the device (computer) that you want to pair, in three fields to pair a device on the computer that has a working Sync setup.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem.

I have run both instances of Firefox in safe mode to try to link both laptops to a sync account.

Both computers show "Set up Sync . . . " under the Firefox button.

In setting up Firefox, I click "I have an account", but I cannot log in there.

So I try to check my online sync account here:

https://account.services.mozilla.com/forgot

I am prompted for email address and password.

I cannot log on. With my email address and password.

So I attempt to reset my password:

I am prompted for user name (email address?) and reCAPTCHA

I get this error message:

Unable to locate your account. Please check your username.

It seems that I do not have a Firefox sync account online. I had erased the account and then re-established it, I thought.

Can you help?

You will have to try to set up sync once again on a desktop computer if you can't access that sync account.

You can try to create a new test profile if it doesn't work in your current profile.

See "Creating a profile":
