I happily use Firefox on my Kindle Fire HD. However since I've got a new smartphone on order I need to transfer to the new Firefox sync from the old one. The problem is that it is not possible to follow 'Unlink all of your devices from the old Sync' 'On an Android device:' instructions here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-to-update-to-the-new-firefox-sync#firefox:win7:fx29&mobile::m29

as users don't have access to the sync settings on a Kindle Fire HD. What can I do?

If this is possible,

  1. Tap on menu
  2. Tap on settings
  3. Tap on Sync
  4. Does this take you to the account page? if so, add a new account Firefox Sync (not the deprecated one)
  5. Set up a new account and log in at the page it takes you to.

(about:accounts used to do this, now it does not)

You can also remove the account from here. If these options are not there, let us know and I will investigate more.

I'm afraid Step 3 doesn't take you to the account Sync page, as it does in 'normal' Android OS. Furthermore I haven't managed to find a way to get to account sync pages through the device settings, as it does in 'normal' Android OS.

Thanks for your help by the way :)

I was wondering about unistalling Firefox and then reinstalling it again. However I'm fearful that the 'uninstall process' wont remove the sync conduit. Does anybody know if that's the case?

Hi Robert_Hart, Apologies for the delay, escalations are very exciting this week. So, you should not have to uninstall and reinstall if the version says 29.0.1. My mistake on the about:accounts page, they changed this in beta and is misinformation on my part. So, in order to set up the new sync if you can open the Settings menu on Firefox for android there is an option to click on Sync.

  1. Click add new account
  2. click Firefox not Firefox Sync.

Note, if that option is not there please feel free to reinstall Firefox 29.0.1

  1. You should be able to set up the rest with email and password from here :-)

Hope this helps.

guigs2, many thanks for help with this matter. I do have Firefox 29.0.1 on the KIndle Fire HD, but when I go to Settings -> Sync, it just goes to a black screen and then returns to the bowser page. (By contrast, when I do this on other Android devises it goes to the Sync setting within Android).

If I uninstall Firefox 29.0.1 on the KIndle Fire HD will it remove the old Sync settings?

Will I uninstalled 29.0.1 on the KIndle Fire HD and reinstalled it. This then allowed me to enter the details of the new sync account. It then said "Account verified". However, so far, nothing seems to have synced across. By contrast with my 'normal android device' everything seems to have sync OK.

I can confirm that the new sync does not work on my Kindle Fine HD.

To double check I uninstalled 29.0.1 on the KIndle Fire HD and reinstalled it. Setting up the new sync account once more. Again it said "Account verified" but nothing has synced across. When I go to Settings -> Sync it says:

Firefox Account [The correct name of the account]

Sync: Enabled But then each of the options of ticked but in grey.

My 'normal android' device using the same account works fine.

This is really disappointing as sync is one of the main reasons that I've used Firefox Android on this device.
