is it possible to create a folder within a bookmark folder

I'd like to create sub categories for a bookmark. For example... the "travel" bookmark folderwould have subfolders such as USA, Europe, Asia

Yes it is possible to do that. Basically what you do is you go onto the bookmarks bar, then click bookmarks. If you already have your "travel" bookmark folder, you can then right click that folder and a menu will come up. In that menu it will say "create new folder". Click that, name you're folder, and you're ready to add bookmarks. From there, drag and drop the folder into the "travels" folder. See attached screenshots if this doesn't make sense.

You can also do this in the Bookmarks Manager (Library).
