I have two computers, both with Thunderbird. My personal email addresses are on one, my work addresses on the other. I tried to move my personal addresses onto the work computer so that they would all be together, using MozBackup. I thought it would just add my personal ones to the existing ones, but no. First it wiped out everything that was there and replaced it with my personal stuff, then it restored a work profile from 3 years ago. Result: I have lost a stack of emails and half my address book. I tried running thunderbird.exe -p as per your support page, but it simply went to Thunderbird with no profile manager dialog box. Help! I really want to get back the emails and addresses that have been lost, without losing any of the new stuff.

Running Thunderbird -p will not work if TB is already running.

When restoring with mozbackup you need to know where that file is (extension .pcv). You probably found an old one. It will replace a lot as it is just a zipped copy of a profile. (You can open it with an "unzipper" like 7-zip)

A way to transfer your address-book is export it as a ldif or .csv -file and then import it. If you use add-on "MoreFunctionsForAddressBook" there are other ways as well.
