I did the "refresh and lost my tool bar with bookmarks etc. How do I get them back?
Hi robmm76, normally there is an Old Firefox Data folder on your desktop, and your old profile folder is inside. If not, it's possible your old profile folder remained in its original location. Could you try this?
Open your current (post-Refresh) Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
- "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
- (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
- type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This should launch a new window listing various files and folders in Windows Explorer.
In the Windows Explorer address bar, click Profiles to navigate up one level. Do you see multiple folders there?
If No: Please ignore the rest of this post.
If Yes: Based on the modified date/time, you may be able to identify your pre-Refresh profile folder. If so, make a note of the exact name.
Then click Firefox in the Windows Explorer address bar to navigate up another level. Here you should find a file named profiles.ini. If Windows is hiding the .ini extension, it probably has a file type of Application Settings or Configuration settings. Could you open this file and see whether the pre-Refresh folder is still listed in there?
If Yes: You can exit out of Firefox and use the Profile Manager to switch over to the old pre-Refresh profile. See: Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles. Note: Please do not delete any profiles in the Profile Manager, it is a little too easy to delete the wrong one.
If No: I suggest closing Firefox and changing the profile name of your current (post-Refresh) profile to the old one. If there is more than one profile listed in the profiles.ini file, edit the one that has Default=1 in that section.
Any luck?
- "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
- (menu bar) File > Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename xulstore.json to something like xulstore.old. If you see a file named localstore.rdf, rename that one to localstore.old.
Start Firefox back up again. Do windows display normally again?
Hi creeboat, hopefully it's just a matter of turning the toolbar back on.
You can turn on (or turn off) Firefox's built-in Bookmarks Toolbar using one of these methods to show the toolbar list:
- right-click a blank spot on the tab bar (or the "+" button)
- tap the Alt key to activate the classic menu bar > View > Toolbars
- in Customize mode > Show/Hide Toolbars
Does that work? And are your bookmarks still there?
