how do I view images, video, graphics, etc embedded in my emails received. sometimes selecting "show remote content" allows content display and sometimes not

I use Thunderbird for email. Many emails are displayed with small icons on the page where there should be graphics, pictures, etc. If I select "show remote content" it may display the content. Sometimes it doesn't. How can I display this content consistently?
