If I run firefox and leave it running, come back later it seems that all popups stop working, bookmark folders stop displaying there contents, right clicking doesn't display a menu etc. Also clicking on download links requires 2 clicks (not double click) to download things.

I have to restart firefox to get everything working again.

I have reset firefox, this problem started I think about 5 or 6 version ago but I'm not sure on a version number.

I forgot to mention that I only RDP into the computer that is running firefox, not sure if this is the issue but I have been running this computer for years with firefox running constantly rebooting the computer once a week and never had this problem before.

The computer is Windows 7 Ultimate x64 running all windows updates and latest version of firefox.

How much memory is Firefox using when this starts happening? If you need to restart Firefox to recover from slowness or other things that stop working then this could indicate a memory issue.

See also the about:memory page. You can open "about:" pages via the location/address bar

  • "about:" is a protocol to access special pages

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

It still happens in Safe Mode.

When the folders stop displaying the drop down menus stop as well.

after I have RDP into the computer and firefox fails, I have then logged into the computer itself and firefox worked ok. I then RDP again and firefox works for a time before failing again.

So this seems to be a problem with firefox and RDP.

All drivers are up to date.

Just updated to Firefox Quantum 57.0 and the problem still exists.

Not sure the problem should still exist with a new built from the ground up browser but it does.

Ok so Firefox 58.0 seem to have fixed the problem as I have had no problem since this update.

Guess what, Update 58.0.1 broke it again. almost instantly after updating to 58.0.1, I leave it running for 10 minutes then RDP into the computer and firefox will not display any of the menu's.

version 58.0.0 did not have this problem even after hours or days I could RDP into the computer and all the menu's worked fine.

So I don't know why this is happening.
