How do I ensure that emails received by recipients with an @gmail.com account don't see the red question mark avatar? I understand that this means gmail cannot verify my identity.

Is this actually happening, or is this a hypothetical question?

The authenticating mechanisms are put in place by the server operators. I think it's fair to say that we mere end users have no say in the matter.
