TB v78.2.2 - not receiving emails unless I manually click on "Get messages"
Hi
I have TB 78.2.2. I'm new to it. I have set up about 20 emails using POP accounts and a Global Inbox and Local Folders. I don't want IMAP.
All of them have the following setup: - Check for New Messages at startup - Check for new messages every 2minutes - Automatically download new messages
I also made sure that the "Include this server when getting new mail" is checked in ADVANCED menu.
However, I'm not receiving emails unless I manually click on "Get messages" at the left top corner.
Am I missing something??
Thanks

Do you see anything in the error console? Ctrl-Shift-J
First, thanks for your reply. At first I didn't see any errors, but went back to it a few minutes later and found these:

ns_error_file_unrecognized_path & ns_error_not_available should be caused by some add-on(s) but should not affect getting/sending mail. Try to press get mail multiple times and check again the console error
Apologies - you should not have any other error there... My mistake. Actually those errors might be the issue Try starting Thunderbird in safe mode (no add-ons) - press shift button on keyboard when you open Thunderbird. In this way is it working as expected?
Try changing the checking period to 10 or 15 min., instead of 2 min.

Thanks @sfhowes for your help. I do now receive emails (not sure which step I have performed fixed it though), however I have a quick question regarding your last reply please.
Is it true that Thunderbird does not check emails under 10 minutes? I use a personal domain and the servers allow to check emails every 2 minutes, I've had no issues at all with eM client for ages. Is there a way to force Thunderbird (78.2.2) to check all POP emails every 2 minutes?
thnx
You might post here your Thunderbird Troubleshooting information, then we might can see if you are using the correct settings: At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button (or use the regular menu at the top), then select Help: Troubleshooting Information. Click the "Copy text to clipboard" button. Do not check the box "Include account names" Then paste (Ctrl-V), the text into your response here. We only need to see the sections down to and including the "Extensions" section, so you can delete the rest.
Some servers refuse connections if they are contacted too frequently. If you don't know which change made it work, change just the time back to 2 min. and see if it fails. If you want instant notification of new mail, IMAP is more likely to provide that feature.

Thanks but it's not that. My server accepts connections every 2 minutes, it had been working perfectly with eM Clients or Outlook before that for years. I have my own domain and using IONOS as my mail provider.
I really don't understand why TB is not respecting my choice of getting POP emails every 2 minutes!!! Why is it so difficult. I receive all of my emails more than 10 minutes later! Really not acceptable.

On a computer that I have Kaspersky had asked me about new connection (after upgrade to tb 78). Can you try to turn it off (pause or even exit application) and check if this change something?
If not - can you try Gmail to set it to check every 13 minutes (instead of what is now) and rest of them every 2 or 3 minutes as you want and see if there is a difference (for a while at least)? Restart TB and wait...
Modified
You might want to run in safe mode (Help/Restart with add-ons disables) to test if an add-on like Get/Send is interfering with mail checks.

These were very good ideas, I never thought of doing that, but unfortunately, TB is still getting my email very late, about 10 minutes after I send my test emails. I also sent these test emails to an email in eM client and outlook and I'm getting them every 2 minutes as I configured it. It looks like TB is ignoring the setting that allows to check email every 2 minutes... so weird Thank you for your help

Thanks again for your help. Even when disabling all add-ons, TB still gets my email about every 10 minutes. As I replied to another helper above, it looks like TB is ignoring the setting that allows me to get my POP emails every 2 minutes which is really annoying. Why would TB do that? My servers can handle it, so it's not mozilla's choice to allow this or not. It works fine with em client and outlook (but I'd really prefer to use TB!!).
