PS. These problems started with the new versions of Thunderbird. Worked fine with Amiga and Windows until just recently....

Where did you find the settings? According to this source, the outgoing server security should be SSL/TLS on port 465. It may also work with STARTTLS on 587, but the User Name for incoming and outgoing should be the full email address.

If the settings are correct, the problem might be caused by incompatible antivirus scanning outgoing mail, or possibly a TLS incompatibility with TB 78.
