I have Thunderbird set to open messages in a separate window. There is a blank space under the status bar that appeared a few versions ago, and I can't get rid of it. It's not removable from the customize layout, and nothing under the View menu will remove it. It doesn't seem to serve any purpose either. When in the customize layout screen, you can't add anything to it.

Does it appear in safe mode (hold Shift when launching TB)?
