I need to keep emails associated with a domain i own. I need to keep the OLD account. I make use of thunderbird to manage my emails. I switched hosts but no longer have access to the previous host smtp mail provider, which is fine. BUT Thunderbird always tries to connect old host when clicking "Get messages" and refuses to let me clear and blank the smtp host address.

It's possible to set TB to ignore the old account for regular automated mail checks. but the on demand Get Messages button ignores that setting and there's no options, anywhere, to skip over.

please fix this bug. checking each account individually is tiresome. other alternative of closing and re-opening TB is slow and even worse.

Many thanks. Spudatoe (Rob)

Chosen solution

You move all the mail to local folders and delete the existing account from Thunderbird. There is no way to turn of checking of defunct accounts! So please there is not some magic bullet to get you what you want.

NO. Setting to "localhost" is not a workaround. That's just a prolongation requiring further unecessary checks.

Thanks for the quick reply and solution. I really appreciate it.

It'll do, but it is far from ideal. It only needs a checkbox to "Do not include this account when getting messages" button. It's already there, but for some reason the scope of the option is limited to "startup".

Bizarre logic indeed!!
