The bookmark sidebar appears when Firefox first opens; I can turn it off, but it reopens on restart; how do I change the default?
It's a mild annoyance, but the bookmark sidebar always appears when Firefox first opens. I uncheck it in view or click on the "x", but it reappears on the next start up. I can't find any option in options that controls the default on this. I do a lot of work with multiple windows and need the space.
Chosen solution
-> Troubleshooting extensions and themes
-> Tap ALT key or press F10 to show the Menu bar -> go to View Menu -> Sidebar -> unselect Bookmarks
IF the problem persists, Preferences are not saved - User.js file overriding preferences
- https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Preferences%20are%20not%20saved#w_user-js-file-overriding-preferences
- DELETE ALL LINES in user.js file
Check and tell if its working.

So, after a week or so the problem has mysteriously disappeared just as mysteriously as it appeared. Maybe the .js file finally got overwritten (nothing checked in sidebars). I also got a funky message this morning from Norton security about it not working even though it was. When I restarted this evening all was fine. I'm just connecting dots here with no evidence, but at least I have a arsenal of information should the problem re-appear. Thanks to you both.
