How can I import bookmarks from one hard drive to another hard drive on the same computer?

How can I import bookmarks from one hard drive to another hard drive on the same computer?

Chosen solution

I go to the application data folder/local/Mozilla/firefox/profiles

Not local, because only your old cache would be under local. Check for your profile folder under

olddrive:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

It might be helpful to describe how you ended up with bookmarks on a different hard drive -- was that drive from your previous computer?

If your second drive has your old Firefox profile folder in its entirety, you can restore a backup from your old profile folder. See: Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer -- you will want to use the Choose File option at the bottom of the Restore menu and navigate to your old profile folder on the other drive, and click into the bookmarkbackups folder. Please note that restoring an old backup will replace any bookmarks you have added in your current installation of Firefox. To export those first, see Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks.

If you don't have your old profile folder but you exported your bookmarks from an earlier installation of Firefox to an HTML format file, you can import those into your current installation of Firefox. See: Import Bookmarks from an HTML file.

Any luck?

Well I did a rebuild with a new mobo so I had to do a fresh install of the OS ... the old hard drive with the browser is now hooked up to the new mobo. I want to put the bookmarks from the old mozilla on to the new mozilla and I don't see how to do that. I have firefox 12 installed on the new hard drive ... I think firefox 11 is installed on the old hard drive, but now for sure.

I tried the restore option, but when I when in profiles on the old hard drive there was nothing about a bookmarkbackups folder ... if this had to be done before had in the old OS it was not.

I tried the importing bookmarks from an html file but couldn't find anything.

I even tried replace the old firefox folder with the new one ... nothing.

No luck so far

To get the bookmarks (and history) you can copy the places.sqlite file to the current profile folder or restore the bookmarks from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder of your current Firefox installation:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

I did a search for a places.sqlite and it found nothing like that on the drives ... if I'm following what it said in the link you provided I can't restore the bookmarks in the old firefox because I didn't make a backup. When I look for the recent JSON I get nothing but "open" in the button to click and that just opens more files that led to a dead in ... Nothing that will load into the library box that can be imported to the new firefox.

I tried the current firefox ... going into help and troubleshooting information but that's as far as it will go ... I can only click on that and it take me to a website. No profile directory or open containing folder.

Once again I am using firefox 12.

Thank you that did the trick ... I was looking in the wrong folder ... didn't go into roaming at all. I was unable to import them with firefox ... I had to close the browser and go into the file you stated ... copied the firefox file and pasted it in the c drive. That was all it took.  :)
