I open firefox and it goes to my homepage (used both animalrescuesite.com & google.com). I open a second tab. If I close the homepage tab, firefox crashes. If I open a third tab and close the 2nd or 1st, it crashes. It crashed so often, I reinstalled firefox 17 to make this report. I run Win7 32 bit. Let me know what else you need to know. Thank you. I love using firefox, but this is a deal breaker if I can't fix it.

Vulnerability protection is on but toolbar still incompatible. Same for you? I don't really use it anyway so it's not a drama.

sarinapixie, how are you applying the patch? If you are manually running LiveUpdate as I did, it never did update for me. It was only when I left it alone that it ran LiveUpdate automatically and did the whole thing seamlessly.

Yes vulnerability was OK and toolbar was still disabled. Then it became enabled at a later time without any intervention from me.

I did it manually and updated one, not the other.

I'll let it do it's thing and see how it goes. At least it's not crashing anymore.

I don't use the toolbar either but I didn't want it enabled and crashing my FF. So now that the plugin is working properly, I can rest assured that if I want to use the toolbar, it is fully functional.

It will enable the last one at some point. I read that it happened that way for others as well. And it did for me.

You're welcome. I've had Norton on my computer for close to 10 years and they usually keep up with their plugins. This crashing problem took me by surprise. I'm glad it's resolved and I hope others get the same results.

"Pg_63, when you restart after the crash, keep going to your plugin tab and make sure Norton gets disabled. Sometimes it tries to restore with the plugin enabled and that's why it is still crashing. Instead of saying restore, hit "CLOSE" and then it will allow you to disable that plugin. That's what I had to do when I had Norton 360 and it kept crashing, even after I thought I had disabled the plugin."

Mizwiz thats exactly what I had to do, thanks, It was a long and frustrating process but never gave it a thought that it wouldn't disable lol. Thanks anyway much appreciated.

On 1/13/2013 the problem disappeared when I began using the account on my PC that has User authority. I then updated this page stating that the problem, what ever the source, had been solved. Later I used the Administration account on my PC where I discovered that the problem still existed. As of this date and time, I just finished testing Firefox using the Asministration account. I cleared cache and changed the cache management from static to dynamic because I think Firefox has a cache management problem. I retested Firefox and found that the problem still exists with a slight varation, closing the first tab in a group of open tabs does not cause a crash, closing a second tab causes a crash. The crash occurs when using either dynamic or static cache management.

Well here we are on 01/17/2013 and the problem hits when I use my Administration account. The problem does not hit when I use my User account. Microsoft and Norton software are both current.

Its the Norton Toolbar. It is not compatible with version 18.0. Disable it and see if Firefox still crashes.

By disabling Norton IDENTITY SAFE / PASSWORD MANAGER, the crashing problem has not happened again.

I contacted Norton Live Chat for support on this issue. They uninstalled my Norton program and then reinstalled it. Everything seems to be working correctly with Firefox now!
