remembering my passwords problem

more options

OK here I go I had my passwords saved, but I'm not certain how this happened, but it stopped remembering a few of them, and it does not ask me to save them anymore (only if I go to a new site). I know... tools--- options--then security. but that does not allow me to enter any. It only gives me the option to delete some. Before you ask, no the exception box is empty. Please help me get firefox to remember my passwords! I have at least 3 sites that I over and over every single day. Thanks

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing mode.

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
  • Deselect: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Thank you amitshree.... BUT I cannot find the password manager! All I can find is: tool→Options→Security... then that shows me the remember passwords, and only allows me to remove some or all, but not add or change any of them...

If I re-set firefox... Will I loose any of all the other stored passwords? Or anything else that I need? Thank you

if you reset the firefox you will lose the stored passwords and addons installed if you not sync your data.

if you have used mozilla sync option then after reset you need to again sync the data.

Before resetting i suggest to try this option :

1. Firefox orange button>help>Troubleshooting Information

2. Under Application Basics, click Open Containing Folder

3. there will be prefs.js, user.js and sessionstore.js

4. Delete all 3 files

5. restart and done.

using this method you will not loss the data.

You lose Add-ons, but passwords are among the data that Firefox tries to recover.

If you reset Firefox then a new profile is created and some of your data (bookmarks, history, cookies, passwords, form data) is automatically imported and your current profile will be moved to the desktop (Old Firefox Data).

It is possible to recover more data from the old profile, but be cautious to avoid carrying over the problem.

Firefox does not remember passwords for a long time. Had this problem also with IE9 and so i switched to Firefox. Did not had the problem for a while. Firefox now also loses them suddenly and it is not a setting. They are suddenly gone and if look at the stored paswords now there are only a few instead of a dozen which i added along the way.

Can you please get in to this and help us that it keeps stored even after an update, even when when you are just normally browsing. It is really strange.
