My main computer is synced with my android. My main comp is down for the count with a bad virus. May not ever recover. I need to sync my browser bookmarks and all history from my android phone to my back up comp (as I should have done before) but cant figure out how to do it. My new comp gives me a code. My android just wants to sync with my main comp and I cant get it to generate the code so that my new comp can sync to it and get my former desktops info. I can still access everything via my android but I need it on my new comp. Please help.

I can't help you with the Sync part, sorry.

But have you considered accessing the contents of your main computer's hard drive, for example, by taking it out of the computer and loading it into another computer, either using a USB drive enclosure and attaching it as an external drive, or installing it internally as a slave drive? As long as you did not encrypt the hard drive, you should be able to copy out your Firefox settings folder and, assuming it's not crapped up, load it onto your backup computer, or at least rescue the most relevant files. I can give some references on how to do it if you think that's an option.

Of course, you would need to exercise caution to avoid anything actually running from the drive, as it may be infected...

Thanks for your response. But at this point that is not an option. I have my comp in the shop as it were with a guy who has done work for me for a long time but hes 50 miles away. Have yet to hear a diagnosis on the issue. I am sure he will get it hashed out, but in the mean time I need those bookmarks and history to do my business. I can limp along but they make it so much faster. Thanks anyway.

Use the 12 digit code from the Android device while it is connected to the Sync server on the backup computer.

the ed-meister Thankyou. But that is the problem. because the android is synced to the old comp, I can't get it to generate a code to sync to the backup. all I can do is subject sync in the phones browser (Firefox) and it sends me to the phones sync menu to select one of 100 synced applications. I select the Firefox sync (synced to my Gmail) and it attempts to sync with my old comp, not giving me the option to generate the code to give to my backup. I hope that is more clear.

You can pair the backup computer with the Android device:

  • Android OS > Settings > Accounts > Firefox Sync > Pair a new Device

cor el yes Thankyou. But already tried that. Will only try to sync with the old comp. doesn't come up with a new sync code for the New comp. I'm apparently not being clear enough. my phone being synced with the old comp already, does NOT generate a new sync code when I go to the settings and then sync menu. it simply tries to update ours existing sync connection. I need to know how to get the phone to spot it a new sync code.

You need to do the opposite and generate a 12-character pair code on the new backup computer and enter this code on the Android device.

  1. open "Firefox > Set Up Sync..." or "Tools > Options > Sync > Set Up Firefox Sync"
  2. click "I Have an Account"
  3. click "Pair a device" to get a 12-character code that you can enter on another device that has Sync set up

Both devices need to be online at the same time if you want to pair a device with the (3x4) 12-character code.
