Do I need a Google account to sign up for Pocket?

No. Google is just one option for signing up for a Pocket account. If you prefer to not use this option, you can still sign up independently by selecting one of our other login options, such as Apple and Mozilla.

I already have a Pocket account. Can I start using Google to log in?

If you have a Pocket account, it’s easy to start using the Google log in option. Here’s how:

If your Pocket account is registered with a Google email address, just select the “Log in with Google” button and you’ll be allowed to connect your accounts.

If your Pocket account is not registered with a Google email address, you can still log in using Google if you add a Google email address to your Pocket account. To do so, visit the Email Addresses page in your Pocket account settings to add and confirm your Google email address. Afterwards, you can use the “Log in with Google” button to connect your accounts.

I have multiple Google accounts. Can I use each of them to log into Pocket?

You can log into Pocket with multiple Google email addresses as long as each has been added to your Pocket account. Just visit the Email Addresses page in your Pocket account settings to add and confirm the Google email addresses you wish to use. Afterwards, you can use use the “Log in with Google” button to connect your accounts.

When I try to log in with Google, the pop up disappears immediately and I can’t log in. What’s going on?

To use Google Sign-On, third party cookies are required. If the Google accounts popup disappears quickly and doesn’t log you into Pocket, this suggests that your browser is configured to not allow third party cookies.

If you’d like to log into Pocket with your Google Account in the future, please consider allowing third party cookies in your browser. Here are links to learn where to find these settings in popular browsers and make changes to the third-party cookie settings.

Apart from this, another solution may be to add accounts.google.com to the list of allowed domains. Alternatively, if you would rather not make any changes to your browser settings, you can simply log into Pocket with your registered email address and password. What information does Pocket have access to when connecting to Google?

When connecting your Google account to Pocket, you allow certain information to be accessed by Pocket. This includes:

  • View your email address.
  • View basic information about your Google account, including your name, profile URL, account photo and gender.

What information does Google have access to when connecting to Pocket?

When connecting your Google account to Pocket, none of your information in Pocket is sent to Google.

I connected my Google account to Pocket, but would now like to disconnect it. Is this possible?

You can disconnect Pocket’s access to your Google account at any time. Simply visit the Connected Services and Applications Page in Pocket's account settings, and click the "Remove Access" link next to Google. You can also control the entire list of account permissions on Google’s Account Permissions page.

I’d like to log into Pocket with another service. Is Pocket planning on adding additional services in the future?

At this time, we support signing up for Pocket with a Google account, Apple account, and Mozilla account. We are open to considering adding more options in the future.
