What are you doing that does not work? I had no problem using the Attach button and placing a .docx file in the attachment window to the right of the address bar. From there I can double click the file or right click the file and select Open and in both cases using a .docx file it opened MS Word and displayed the document. When I tried it with a .jpg file it would not work. I went into Tools-Options-Attachments-Incoming it was set to use Microsoft Office 2010 for .jpg files so I changed it to using Photoshop CC and it worked fine after that. I tested with a .pdf and that works fine.
