After firefox updated, history, bookmarks. . . GONE! I have a load of json files and Firefox shows then for restore but each errors as not being able to load. Come on. That's wipes the browser back to day one!

Are you trying to restore a bookmarks JSON backup?

If you see "Unable to process the backup file" then it is possible that there is a problem with the places.sqlite database.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks, history) in the Firefox profile folder.

If the Places Maintenance extension can't repair the places.sqlite database then remove all places.sqlite file(s) in the Firefox profile folder to make Firefox rebuild the places.sqlite database from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created

You will have to restore an older JSON backup manually if the most recent file is already corrupted.
