I just installed Java's latest update but Firefox won't run. I've done all the trouble shooting steps on Java.com yet it still won't run. I can I verify if Firefox is blocking Java?

What happens when you use Java's check

Your System details (See right edge of forum page towards top) indicate a java plugin is installed.

Also may I ask are you sure you need this ? See also these for background information

I installed Java on my 32bit computer running Windows 7. When I go to the Java website to verify it indicates that it couldn't tell if I had Java installed. I've tried all the suggestions on Java's website to no avail. Java shows on my control panel and will come up with tabs. Everything checks out that it is functioning on my computer. I've tried to run Java for both Firefox and IE11 (all software and browser addins are current). I try to play Wordsearch on Pogo.com as several games are run on Java (the rest use Flash). It indicates that Java was not detected and to try uninstalling all old versions and install new version. I've done that numerous times. Nada. Addins for Firefox state that Java is on "Always activate". Again, nothing.

My son keeps telling me that he'll come over to fix, but that may take months for him to find time to do it.

I'm almost ready to stop playing games on Pogo (because I can't play any of their Java games).

What really takes the last straw is, once in a blue moon it will run. (Then the next day or even that afternoon it's gone again.) Oh and I tried uninstalling my Virus protection and trying another but it won't work.

Any more suggestions? Thanks.

That is pretty conclusive evidence it is not installed or not working..

So it does not seem to be just a Firefox problem.

You did say in the first post that Firefox would not run, but you apparently posted from Firefox, so I presume you are explaining java does not work in Firefox.

I suggest to try and sort out your Java issue you start again at

I note there is a block on java

That is not too unusual it often causes security issues & you should be able to override it.. You should check you always have the latest version of Java use https://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck and open its all plugins section.

You may need to click to activate the plugin and may need to confrirm that when you use java. Key in to the address bar

about:addons

and hit keyboard key Enter Next click the Extensions tab Make sure all java plugins are set at least as click to activate. when you need to use them.

When not needed set them as never activate. Note support for Java will likely cease soon as mentioned in one of my earlier posts. Hopefully by that time there will be suitable alternatives namely websites working in Firefox without needing Java.

Thanks, but that doesn't do it. My plugins are all up to date and security tab on Java control is clear to use Java. No security restrictions.

There is no "extentions" tab on Java control.

That Java Deployment Toolkit has been blocked by Mozilla since July 18, 2013 - just over 3 years now. "Arbitrary Code Execution in Java Deployment Toolkit plugin" is the title of the original Bug report, that was filed 2011-02-24 Five and a half years and Oracle hasn't fixed that "hole".

It is very rare that the Java Deployment Toolkit is needed for consumer Java applets. That "Toolkit" is mainly used by developers who are developing Java based applications. And also some "institutions" may rely upon that Toolkit for internal application that they developed for "in-house" use.

Bottom line - this forum can "see" that you have the Next Generation Java Plug-in 11.101.2 for Mozilla browsers available for Firefox to use. But that Java "check" test page doesn't say that Java works.

Have you tried any other Java "test" pages? http://javatester.org/ https://www.whatismybrowser.com/detect/is-java-installed http://www.test-java.com/

can I verify if Firefox is blocking Java?

When Firefox detects that a page is requesting to use a plugin, a notification icon should appear in the address bar to the left of the address. I have attached an example screen shot. Do the problem pages trigger that icon? And the panel that drops from the icon shows that Java is being allowed?

Also, just in case a file didn't update correctly because it was in use, have you exited out of Firefox and started it up again since the Java update?

I checked and found out that the blockage isn't coming from Firefox at all. Since I tried removing Avast free virus software and still couldn't get Java to run I'd say the problem isn't Avast. Only thing left that I can figure out is Microsoft itself. I've installed all updates to Microsoft 7 as well as all updates to Firefox and IE11.
