I used Firefox Refresh to speed up the operation of Firefox, and now Firefox won't remember my login usernames and passwords. How do I fix this?

I used Firefox Refresh to speed up the operation of Firefox. Firefox no longer remembers usernames or passwords. When I insert them, no Password Manager appears, and Firefox doesn't remember usernames of passwords. I am using version 55.0.3 (32-bit) on Windows 7. What should I do to get Firefox to remember usernames and passwords? Thanks.

Make sure you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode (Always use Private Browsing mode; Never Remember History).

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy -> Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
  • remove checkmark: [ ] "Always use Private Browsing mode"

You can copy the logins.json and key3.db files from the "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop to the current profile folder with Firefox closed.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Are you using password add-ons/programs?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?
