Firefox v. 56 -- Why do Fox News and other videos work only in safe mode?
I am using Firefox 56.0 on Windows 10 (1703) 64 bit. Videos on many sites, including Fox News, work only in safe mode. On other websites, video works fine. I have tried all the knowledge base suggestions including disabling (and finally deleting) all added on extensions, disabling hardware acceleration, and clearing the cache, history, and cookies. I also cleared the DNS cache. Nothing works for these sites except opening Firefox in safe mode. Otherwise, the video screen is just black (no loading symbol). I have no trouble with video on these websites on other browsers.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for all your replies. I tried all the suggestions but nothing worked. I isolated the problem to my profile, but it was not related to any add-ons, plugins, or external programs like Rapport. Since I couldn't isolate the cause, I finally decided to save my bookmarks, history, and cookies, delete my profile, and start fresh with v. 57 beta. Now video is working fine. Just to check, I reinstalled v. 56 with my new profile and everything worked fine there too. I'm sticking with v. 57. It's really fast and I like the new features.

Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes). If the problem goes away, that tells us one thing. If it does not, that tells us something else.
An add-on may be blocking content.
It could be IBM Security Rapport 1.4, is there a newer version ?
Fyi: Your Flash is out of date, please update to current version https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/ Step 1: Select Operating System Step 2: Select A Version (Firefox, Win IE . . . .) Note: Other software is offered in the download. <Windows Only>
After Note that some sites use in their code both Flash and Html5 and the browser picks. Which one it decides I do not know.
So maybe try some of this please : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/html5-audio-and-video-firefox and https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-common-audio-and-video-issues more https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-video-audio-problems-firefox-windows can try last resort https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/refresh-firefox-reset-add-ons-and-settings There are a few force Html5 to run Extensions : https://www.google.ca/search?q=firefox+extensions+html5+video+audio&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&gws_rd=cr&dcr=0&ei=gx3gWbD1DJizjwT575Eg

One other thing to be on the lookout for is Tracking Protection in private windows. You'll see a "shield" icon toward the left end of the address bar when it is filtering out some content in a page. More info: What happened to Tracking Protection?.
